Get ready for green ferries
Mandy has two articles in the new issue of Am Bratach, the news magazine for the north west Highlands, and both are about green energy.
One is an update on the latest developments to tap marine energy in the Pentland Firth, between northern Scotland and Orkney. Both tidal and wave power tests are rippling ahead there.
The other considers whether hydrogen could be an alternative fuel for cars and boats. This article discusses a new technology for pumpable hydrogen produced by Cella Energy in Oxford, and ongoing research at Lewes College in Stornoway to convert diesel engines on boats to run on hydrogen. Hopefully it won't be long before the ferry to Lewis will be able to run on green fuel.
